No Signposts

He guided me along a hideous black river. I asked where we were going; neither angel nor demon, he said nothing. Screams and harps played out a strange song. I looked for signposts that said Heaven or Hell. There were none. Just like life, the after seems an unanswered question.

Unspoken

The bus rattles through another gray morning, dragging me toward a dull desk that barely pays rent. Then I see her. Our eyes lock in a sudden, electric pause, and she quickly looks away. Shy, or indifferent? The doors hiss open. She steps out, leaving me to my quiet commute.
