The Colors Trilogy
The Colors trilogy explores the lives of women of India through the three colours of the Indian national flag, and the ideals they represent. Conceived as three distinct dance films, the trilogy examines prosperity, peace and courage through the choices women make and the consequences they face.
Colors: Green explores prosperity through the lens of choice, reflecting on what it means for a woman to determine the course of her own life.
Colors: White, the second film, considers peace as something found not in conformity, but in the freedom to follow one's own will. The film is particularly noted for its visual poetry.
The concluding film, Colors: Saffron, takes its inspiration from the courage symbolised by saffron in the Indian flag. Set in a dystopian world, it portrays women condemned for defying the established social order by surpassing men in their achievements. Without dialogue, narration or voiceover, the film relies entirely on movement, imagery and performance to convey its unsettling vision. Choreographed and performed by Savitha Sastry, the film is an intense, uncompromising conclusion to the trilogy, distinguished by a performance of extraordinary technical precision and emotional force.
Written and directed by AK Srikanth, the trilogy brings together classical dance and cinematic storytelling in an exploration of women's autonomy, resilience and the societies that seek to define their place.
